Usually sown in the same year and blooms in the same year. Seeds germinate in about a week, and transplant once when 2 to 3 true leaves have grown. Hollyhock seedlings are prone to damping-off disease, so the management of seedbed soil should be strengthened, leaf rot soil, field soil should be selected and soil disinfection should be carried out, or medicinal soil should be mixed when sowing.
Hollyhock likes full sun, tolerates partial shade, but avoids waterlogging. It has strong resistance to salt and alkali, and can still grow in soil with 0.6% salt content. Cold-resistant, it can be safely overwintered in the open field in North China. Grows well in loose, fertile, well-drained, organic-rich sandy soils.
